So it seems that spring has come here in Boston, at least mostly. It got kinda cold for a few days earlier this week and I felt like fall had returned, which wasn't such a bad thing since fall happens to be the best season. I honestly felt like the leaves were going to start changing, I would be departing on a cheese tour through Vermont, a trip to Block Island was about to occur, my friends would show up for an epic weekend of road tripping around New England, and I could go ride my bike every day. Only the last of these ended up being an actual possibility, and I only decided to make it a reality on Saturday and today.
I feel like my weekly spin class hasn't kept me in the shape I thought it had. My 30 and 35 mile rides have gone really well, but today's 25 mile ride was totally exhausting. I was riding against fairly strong winds, but it still wasn't supposed to be that strenuous of a trip. I felt weak and a little embarrassed as a guy on a heavy mountain bike passed me on the trail. Looks like I need to get out on the bike more...
Partially to blame for my state of exhaustion today is the fact that I decided to take up swimming yesterday. Since I knew I was going to ride today, I decided that spin would be a bad idea and went and invested about $50 in a new swimsuit, goggles, and a swim cap (required at BU's world-class aquatics center). I am an awful swimmer. I jumped in and did two laps at super high speed without really breathing, and then I realized that my strategy was somewhat ridiculous. I was quickly out of breath and had to keep my head out of the water for almost the entire length of the pool to allow my breathing to go back to normal. After I got a little better at the breathing thing, I realized I have zero upper-body strength and was going to have to quit. I lasted maybe 25 minutes. I guess I'll just have to keep at it.
This new warm weather plus my current access to a roommate's car also lead to a weekend expedition to a disc golf course for the first round I had played in about 8 or 9 months. I went out with some classmates who are also disc golfing enthusiasts, one of whom guessed on the second day of class from my appearance alone that I must be a disc golfer. It was a great time. We were even blessed with the honor of running into a local disc golfer who told us about a tournament he runs where you "get a ton f-ing great sh** for just 25 f-ing dollars." It was already about 4pm at this point so, needless to say, he had already downed 4 or 5 drinks. He also quickly eyeballed us for talent and after looking us each up and down informed my friend Paul that he could probably be pretty good at this sport, leaving me and Steven trying to figure out what it is about our physical appearance that suggested we could not attain to that level ourselves. The day was followed by a traditional post-disc golf visit to the 7-11 for Slurpees. It was a great time.
Anyways, I guess that's enough updating for now. The song of the day is Animal by Miike Snow (The two i's in Miike is not a typo). Enjoy it here.

I think they could tell Paul was from Alaska, that is why they pinned him as good. You shouldn't dwell in not presenting that demeanor, it's a good thing. That, or he has great hair.
Good luck on your endeavors to get more Fit. Cause that is one of the greatest words ever invented, so you should strive to emulate it in every way possible. Fit. FIT! fffiittt. Yup, every way I say it is just as fun as the last. Love the word "fit."
